Then many years later, I once again came across this writing by my son. Yes, there is no doubt it is really all about little things!
The Little Things
It’s the little things in life
That sometimes go unseen
Sound silly? Sound foolish?
Stop and notice the small things you need
“That flat tire is only flat on the bottom you know”
It’s nothing you can’t deal with so onward you go
Slipping on that brand new pair of socks
No fuzzy lint or big toe print to be found on the lot
The crunch from skates when they glide across the fresh ice
That never leave the same blade mark twice
Crawling in to that bed with the freshly made sheets
Or is it the messy, unmade one that helps you sleep
The smell from the fumes when you first start your bike
That makes your arm hairs stand up, makes you grip the throttle tight
That fizzy smell when you open a pop
That makes your eyes water a drip and a drop
The heat from the campfire on a crisp fall night
When you pile on more wood until the dark night turns bright
The smell of the summer rain when it hits the warm pavement
It’s a smell unforgettable; one can’t describe its scent
That person you love when they walk in to a place
Their smile, their laugh brings your heart closer to grace
The tiny set of hands poking at your face
When they’ve woken you too early from your comfy sleeping place
‘Good morning Daddy, are you awake? I love you, now please get up and play’
Those memories, the laughter, none can ever replace
And just ‘If’ you need they bring a smile to your face
It’s the little things in life
That sometimes go unseen
Keep them close keep them dear
For they have precious meaning
They’re out there each day
They’re yours and they’re free
It’s the little things in life
That help define me, as Me
