The following excerpts are taken from the poem, The Guy in the Glass, written by Peter Dale Wimbrow in 1934. His words are Lines to Live By and apply to each of us, regardless of gender.
The Guy in the Glass
If you get what you want
in struggle for self
and the world makes you king for a day
Then go to the mirror
and look at yourself
and see what that guy has to say
…
He’s the fellow to please,
never mind all the rest
for he’s with you clear to the end;
You have passed your dangerous,
difficult task
if the guy in the glass is your friend.
…
You may fool the whole world
down the pathway of years
and get pats on your pack as you pass
But your final reward
will be heartaches and tears
If you cheated the guy in the glass
