Chocolate Cake

Why buy a cake mix? It’s a waste of money.  Make it from scratch and then sit back with a piece chocolate cake and a cup of hot chocolate.  It’s so easy and I’ve never had a failure.  NOTE:  This makes a small cake. It’s quick and easy.

Chocolate Cake

1 2/3 cups flour
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp vinegar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup chocolate chips (opt)

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350° F (175°C). 

Mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda and salt with a fork.  Mix in remaining ingredients (except chocolate chips).  

Pour into 8×8 ungreased pan.  For a double chocolate cake sprinkle chocolate chips over the batter. Bake until wooden pick inserted in centre comes out clean (approx 35 – 45 minutes) or until the cake springs back when touched in the centre.  Allow cake to cool in pans for 5 minutes and then place on rack to cool completely.  Frost as desired.
