Do you ever wonder how certain recipes become so popular? I know I love to experiment and sometimes come up with a wonderful deviation to an original recipe. But for some reason I’ve never changed the recipe for chocolate chip cookies… well maybe just a little but not much.
This is another one of the recipes my granddaughter and I use for our Christmas Cookie gift packages. I use the full recipe for something like that but for the everyday cookie jar I make a smaller batch (see adjusted recipe below)
For Small Batch (3 doz)
Ingredients
1/3 cup margarine
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 eggs
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/3 cup flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
3/4 cups chocolate chips
Directions
Cream margarine and sugars, add egg and mix well. Stir in remaining ingredients (except chocolate chips) and mix well. Add chocolate chips and mix evenly throughout. Drop by spoonful unto lined baking sheets
Bake in 375⁰ oven for 8 to 10 minutes (depends on your oven). Leave on tray for 5 minutes before transferring to grated cooler.
Makes about 3 dozen cookies
For a Crowd (6 doz)
Ingredients
1 cup margarine
3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup white sugar
1 eggs
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 cup flour
1/4 cup rolled oats
1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
Directions
Cream margarine and sugars, add egg and mix well. Stir in remaining ingredients (except chocolate chips) and mix well. Add chocolate chips and mix evenly throughout. Drop by spoonful unto greased baking sheets (see tip below).
Bake in 375⁰ oven for 8 to 10 minutes. Leave on tray for 5 minutes before transferring to grated cooler.
Makes about 6 dozen cookies
TIP: I stopped using parchment paper and greasing baking pans a couple of years ago when my sister told me that she uses bbq grill sheets instead. Nothing sticks. They can be used over and over again and they’re easy to clean.
I just cut them to fit the various baking pans.
