Her little mind travelled to far away lands, to the places she’d visit one day – one day when she was all grown up. There were places with castles and magical creatures, fields of long grass and beautiful flowers. There was the place where fairies lived beneath the ferns and yarrow. Of course, she’d go there first. She would learn everything she needed to know. Perhaps she’d be a doctor, an astronaught, a teacher, a pilot. Maybe she would be a pirate and sail off on a bright blue sea.
Each night she would lay there for hours watching the magic of the night and searching for her special star. It was somewhere far north, farther north than north, in an endless galaxy of stars. It is a special one, a star that sparkled just for her for she was a dream believer.
As she grew older, those dreams changed just a little. But always the magic remained and she knew she could follow her star.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once wrote:
Tell me not, in mournful numbers
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers
and things are not what they seem.Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.Not employment and not sorrow
is our destined end or way
But to act, that each tomorrow
find us farther than todayIt is too late! Ah, nothing is too late
Oh how I love to dream and then once dreamt to plan each step so it can happen.
Always dare to dream! Then with feet planted firmly on the ground and a determination to never give up, the quest for that special something is yours alone.
