You know the smell, the taste – cloves, cinnamon, allspice, ginger. The smell permeates the house during Christmas. This Fruit Jumble cookie recipe reminds me of just that – Christmas. My Mom used to bake them, I think because there were so many in a single batch. The perfect recipe when you are preparing for a church bake sale or the like. AND they are delicious!
This is one of the recipes my granddaughter and I use for our Christmas Cookie gift packages. I always makes a second batch WITHOUT walnuts because some of her friends and neighbours are allergic..
Ingredients
Fruit Mixture
1 cup cherries (chopped)
1 cup chopped dates
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup raisons
½ cup flour
Dry Ingredients
1½ cup margarine
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp cloves
½ tsp ginger
1 vanilla
3 ½ cup flour
Directions
Mix fruit mixture in a large bowl and set aside. In another bowl, cream margarine and sugars, add eggs one at a time beating after each addition. Stir in remaining ingredients and mix well. Add fruit and mix together. Drop by spoonful unto greased baking sheets (see tip below).
Bake in 375⁰ oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
Makes about 14 dozen cookies
TIP: I stopped using parchment paper and greasing baking pans a couple of years ago when my sister told me that she uses bbq grill sheets instead. Nothing sticks. They can be used over and over again and they’re easy to clean.
I just cut them to fit the various baking pans.
