Have you started preparing for Christmas? I have just started my list as I get ready for December 1st. Journey with me as I share my traditions with you.
In our home, the tradition has always been to begin December 1st. This is the big day with the first decoration going up and the basket for the food bank started. It continues every day with something being added until Christmas Eve. It is such a wonderful feeling to see our house transform into a winter wonderland, bringing back pleasant memories of times and people gone by, reminding me of the beauty of today and of hopes and dreams for the future. How I love Christmas!
Only three more days and it will all begin again. There’s so much to do! I’ve already started making my list:
- Design the Christmas card. Actually this starts around July most years with ideas for the front cover sketch but I never really get to the doing until the last minute.
- Decide which recipe … which one will it be? (One must go in with every Christmas card)
- Printing and supplies … do I have enough (toner, paper, envelopes, stamps)
- Update address list
- December 1st – start the basket for the food bank
- Make garland
- Make decoration … What new one will I add this year.
- Cookies – what about cookies – will I? won’t I?
- December 8th … mail cards
- Bread … sweet bread, white bread … how many loaves will I need to make?
- Gifts … what will I make? what do I need to order?
- Church website … add the slide for Advent?
And so it begins – Preparing for Christmas!
How do you prepare for Christmas? What are your traditions? I would love to hear about them. Send me a note and I will share it in my next blog which I’m planning for December 1st. That’s when I will decorate the doors (the first of my decorations). I’ll be sure to include a picture.
