The Beginning of Advent

The beginning of Advent 2021 and decorating begins again. It sparked the desire to sit and write. It’s my first blog in more than a year and it leaves me thinking, ” Where has the time gone!”

animal, rodent, squirrel-2396029.jpgOr course there were many hours over the last two years when the wolf reigned supreme.  Next in a very close race was the squirrel.  Truth be told that darned little critter is to blame for chewing up the time that I’ve lost.

If the sun was shining, my list of ‘things I want to do today’ grew exponentially – half thoughts and sentences would be interrupted by the most wonderful ideas.  If it rained, I would switch to my rainy day list. If it snowed, the gears changed to my snow day list.

Christmas Begins Again

Christmas is such a wonderful time of year.  Mind you, there are some sad times inter-woven as we reminisce and think of those special people who walked with us before but who are no longer here. We come back to the present and smile at how lucky we are that they had been part of our lives. Then we allow ourselves to be caught up in the excitement of decorating and preparations or just sitting back to enjoy a peaceful space, a warm fire, a good book or walk on a starlight night.

Christmas Decorating

It's a process ...

A decoration each day:

  • First, the pine garland.  Each year for about 25 years I bought a new strand until I had enough – on the stairs, over the doors, around the windows, along the beams.
  • The second day, it’s the doors.  Many years ago, I made fabric strips and bows to decorate each door.  It looks so pretty and in all this time, it still looks like new.  It’s amazing what you can do with a metre or two of fabric.
  • The third day, the bows.  I made small red bows from the same type of fabric I used for the doors.
  • Day four comes the wall hangings and other special decorations  – each one made with love – gifts from special people.

Stay tuned for the tree and the lights that NEVER work.
